उच्छेदनीयो ह्य् अनपाश्रयो दुर्बल अपाश्रयो वा अभियुक्तः कोश दण्डाव् आदाय अपसर्तु कामः प्रकृतिभिस् त्यज्यते, न पीडनीयो दुर्ग मित्र प्रतिष्टब्धः ॥

sanskrit

for when the latter is attacked, he, having little or no help, begins to run away, taking his army and treasure with him, and he is deserted by his subjects; whereas the former does not do so, as he has the help of his forts and friends.

english translation

ucchedanIyo hy anapAzrayo durbala apAzrayo vA abhiyuktaH koza daNDAv AdAya apasartu kAmaH prakRtibhis tyajyate, na pIDanIyo durga mitra pratiSTabdhaH ॥
