ये च अस्य हत भूमाव् आसन्न चरास् तान् एक एकशः पृच्छेत् "केन अयम् इह आनीतो हतो वा, कः स शस्त्रः संगूहमान उद्विग्नो वा युष्माभिर् दृष्टः" इति ॥
Those who happened to be at the locality of murder shall be severally asked as follows:-- By whom the deceased was brought there; whether they (the witnesses) saw any armed person lurking in the place and showing signs of troubled appearance?

ते यथा ब्रूयुस् तथा अनुयुञ्जीत ॥
Any clue afforded by them shall be followed in further enquiry.

अनाथस्य शरीर स्थम् उपभोगं परिच्छदम् । वस्त्रं वेषं विभूषां वा दृष्ट्वा तद् व्यवहारिणः ॥
Having observed the personal effects, such as clothing, adornments, or ornaments, found on the helpless deceased's body, one should interrogate those who dealt with them.

अनुयुञ्जीत संयोगं निवासं वास कारणम् । कर्म च व्यवहारं च ततो मार्गणम् आचरेत् ॥
One should inquire into their associations, dwelling, reasons for dwelling, occupation, and conduct. Thereafter, one should proceed with the investigation.

रज्जु शस्त्र विषैर् वा अपि काम क्रोध वशेन यः । घातयेत् स्वयम् आत्मानं स्त्री वा पापेन मोहिता ॥
If a man or woman under the infatuation of love, anger, or other sinful passions commits or causes to commit suicide by means of ropes, arms, or poison, he or she shall be dragged by means of a rope along the public road by the hands of a Chandála.
