खनि रत्न निधि निवेदनेषु षष्ठम् अंशं निवेत्ता लभेत, द्वादशम् अंशं भृतकः ॥
A discoverer of mines, precious stones, or treasure troves shall, on supplying the information to the king, receive 1/6th of it as his share; but if the discoverer happens to be a peon (bhritaka), his share shall be only 1/12th of it.
english translation
khani ratna nidhi nivedaneSu SaSTham aMzaM nivettA labheta, dvAdazam aMzaM bhRtakaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशत सहस्राद् ऊर्ध्वं राज गामी निधिः ॥
Treasure troves valued beyond 100,000 shall wholly be taken by the king.
english translation
zata sahasrAd UrdhvaM rAja gAmI nidhiH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptऊने षष्ठम् अंशं दद्यात् ॥
But if they are of less value, the discover shall receive 1/6th of it as his share.
english translation
Une SaSTham aMzaM dadyAt ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपौर्वपौरुषिकं निधिं जानपदः शुचिः स्व करणेन समग्रं लभेत ॥
Such treasure troves as a man of pure and honest life can prove to be his ancestral property shall wholly be taken by the man himself.
english translation
paurvapauruSikaM nidhiM jAnapadaH zuciH sva karaNena samagraM labheta ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस्व करण अभावे पञ्च शतो दण्डः, प्रच्छन्न आदाने सहस्रम् ॥
Taking possession of a treasure trove without establishing such claim shall be punished with a fine of 500 panas. Taking possession of the same in secret shall be punished with a fine of 1,000 panas.
english translation
sva karaNa abhAve paJca zato daNDaH, pracchanna AdAne sahasram ॥
