एकपदी प्रतिक्रान्तम् अरत्निं वा चक्रि चतुष्पद स्थानम् अग्निष्ठम् उदन् जर स्थानं रोचनीं कुट्टनीं वा कारयेत् ॥
Beginning with a pada or an aratni, an apartment measuring 3 padas by 4 padas shall be made for locating the fire for worship (agnishtham), or a waterbutt, (udanjaram), or a corn-mill (rochaním), or a mortar (kuttinín).

तस्य अतिक्रमे चतुर् विंशति पणो दण्डः ॥
Violation of this rule shall be punished with a fine of 24 panas.

सर्व वास्तुकयोः प्राक्षिप्तकयोर् वा शालयोः किष्कुर् अन्तरिका त्रिपदी वा ॥
Between any two houses or between the extended portions of any two houses, the intervening space shall be 4 padas, or 3 padas.

तयोश् चतुर् अङ्गुलं नीप्र अन्तरम् नीव्र अन्तरम् समारूढकं वा ॥
The roofs of adjoining houses may either be 4 angulas apart, or one of them may cover the other.

किष्कु मात्रम् आणि द्वारम् अन्तरिकायां खण्ड फुल्ल अर्थम् असम्पातं कारयेत् ॥
