क्षये मूल्यं स्तेय दण्डं च दद्यात् ॥

नाष्टिकश् च स्व करणं कृत्वा नष्ट प्रत्याहृतं लभेत ॥
After proving his claim to a lost property (svakaranam kritva), its owner shall be entitled to take possession of it.

स्व करण अभावे पञ्च बन्धो दण्डः ॥
On his failure to prove his title to it, he shall be fined 5 times the value of the property,

तच् च द्रव्यं राज धर्म्यं स्यात् ॥
and the property shall be taken by the king.

नष्ट अपहृतम् अनिवेद्य उत्कर्षतः स्वामिनः पूर्वः साहस दण्डः ॥
If the owner takes possession of a lost article without obtaining permission from the court, he shall be punished with the first amercement.
