विक्रीय पण्यम् अप्रयच्छतो द्वादश पणो दण्डः, अन्यत्र दोष उपनिपात अविषह्येभ्यः ॥
A merchant refusing to give his merchandise that he has sold shall be punished with a fine of 12 panas, unless the merchandise is naturally bad, or is dangerous, or is intolerable.
english translation
vikrIya paNyam aprayacchato dvAdaza paNo daNDaH, anyatra doSa upanipAta aviSahyebhyaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपण्य दोषो दोषः ॥
That which has inherent defects is termed naturally bad.
english translation
paNya doSo doSaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptराज चोर अग्न्य् उदक बाध उपनिपातः ॥
whatever is liable to be confiscated by the king, or is subject to destruction by thieves, fire, or floods is termed as being dangerous.
english translation
rAja cora agny udaka bAdha upanipAtaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptबहु गुण हीनम् आर्त कृतं वा अविषह्यम् ॥
and whatever is devoid of all good qualities, or is manufactured by the deceased is called intolerable.
english translation
bahu guNa hInam Arta kRtaM vA aviSahyam ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवैदेहकानाम् एक रात्रम् अनुशयः, कर्षकाणां त्रि रात्रं, गो रक्षकाणां पञ्च रात्रम् ॥
Time for rescission of a sale is one night for merchants; 3 nights for cultivators; 5 nights for herdsmen.
english translation
vaidehakAnAm eka rAtram anuzayaH, karSakANAM tri rAtraM, go rakSakANAM paJca rAtram ॥
