दाने शुचिः, अन्यथा निक्षेपं स्तेय दण्डं च दद्यात् ॥
If the depositary does not quietly return it, he shall not only forfeit his credit, but be liable to the punishment for theft besides being made to restore the deposit.
english translation
dAne zuciH, anyathA nikSepaM steya daNDaM ca dadyAt ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptप्रव्रज्या अभिमुखो वा श्रद्धेयः कश्चित् कृत लक्षणं द्रव्यम् अस्य हस्ते निक्षिप्य प्रतिष्ठेत ॥
Or a trustworthy person, on the verge of renunciation, might deposit a marked item in his (the depositary's) care and then depart.
english translation
pravrajyA abhimukho vA zraddheyaH kazcit kRta lakSaNaM dravyam asya haste nikSipya pratiSTheta ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततः काल अन्तर आगतो याचेत ॥
Then, having returned after some time, ॥ he॥ should request ॥ the deposit॥.
english translation
tataH kAla antara Agato yAceta ॥

If the depositary dishonestly denies it, he shall not only be made to restore it, but be liable to the punishment for theft.
