मित्र संघस्य वा यो अन्त स्थायी तं लभेत ॥
Or attempts may be made to win him over who is the last among combined friends;

mitra saMghasya vA yo anta sthAyI taM labheta ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअन्त स्थायिनि लब्धे मध्य स्थायिनो भिद्यन्ते ॥
for when he who is the last among combined friends is secured, those who occupy the middle rank will be separated from each other;
english translation
anta sthAyini labdhe madhya sthAyino bhidyante ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमध्य स्थायिनं वा लभेत ॥
or attempts may be made to win over a friend who occupies middle rank;
english translation
madhya sthAyinaM vA labheta ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमध्य स्थायिनि लब्धे न अन्त स्थायिनः संहन्यन्ते ॥
for when a friend occupying middle rank among combined kings is secured, friends, occupying the extreme ranks cannot keep the union.
english translation
madhya sthAyini labdhe na anta sthAyinaH saMhanyante ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयथा च एषाम् आश्रय भेदस् तान् उपायान् प्रयुञ्जीत ॥
(In brief) all those measures which tend to break their combination should be employed.
