शौच सामर्थ्य अपदेशेन व्यसन अभ्युदय अवेक्षणेन वा प्रतिपूजनम् इति दानम् ॥
Gifts may be given under the pretext of having been satisfied with a favoured man's steadfastness in maintaining the purity of his character, or under the plea of anxious care about his weal or woe.

zauca sAmarthya apadezena vyasana abhyudaya avekSaNena vA pratipUjanam iti dAnam ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमित्र व्यञ्जनो वा ब्रूयाद् एतान् "चित्त ज्ञान अर्थम् उपधास्यति वो राजा, तद् अस्य आख्यातव्यम् इति ॥
A spy under the garb of a friend may tell the local persons: „Your king is attempting to find your heart; you should tell him the truth."

mitra vyaJjano vA brUyAd etAn "citta jJAna artham upadhAsyati vo rAjA, tad asya AkhyAtavyam iti ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपरस्पराद् वा भेदयेद् एनान् "असौ च असौ च वो राजन्य् एवम् उपजपति" इति भेदः ॥
Or local men may be separated from each other, by telling them: "This man carries such a tale to the king against you."
