स चेत् संधौ न अवतिष्ठेत, ब्रूयाद् एनं "इमे शत्रु षड् वर्ग वशगा राजानो विनष्टाः, तेषाम् अनात्मवतां न अर्हसि मार्गम् अनुगन्तुम् ॥
IF the enemy does not keep peace, he should be told :-- "These kings perished by surrendering themselves to the aggregate of the six enemies; it is not worthy of you to follow the lead of these unwise kings.
english translation
sa cet saMdhau na avatiSTheta, brUyAd enaM "ime zatru SaD varga vazagA rAjAno vinaSTAH, teSAm anAtmavatAM na arhasi mArgam anugantum ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptधर्मम् अर्थं च अवेक्षस्व ॥
be mindful of virtue and wealth.
english translation
dharmam arthaM ca avekSasva ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमित्र मुखा ह्य् अमित्रास् ते ये त्वा साहसम् अधर्मम् अर्थ अतिक्रमं च ग्राहयन्ति ॥
those who advise you to brave danger, sin and violation of wealth, are enemies under the guise of friends.
english translation
mitra mukhA hy amitrAs te ye tvA sAhasam adharmam artha atikramaM ca grAhayanti ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशूरैस् त्यक्त आत्मभिः सह योद्धुं साहसम्, जन क्षयम् उभयतः कर्तुम् अधर्मः, दृष्टम् अर्थं मित्रम् अदुष्टं च त्यक्तुम् अर्थ अतिक्रमः ॥
it is danger to fight with men who are reckless of their own lives; it is sin to cause the loss of life on both sides; it is violation of wealth to abandon the wealth at hand and the friend of no mean character (meaning the addresser himself).
english translation
zUrais tyakta AtmabhiH saha yoddhuM sAhasam, jana kSayam ubhayataH kartum adharmaH, dRSTam arthaM mitram aduSTaM ca tyaktum artha atikramaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमित्रवांश् च स राजा, भूयश् च एतेन अर्थेन मित्राण्य् उद्योजयिष्यति यानि त्वा सर्वतो अभियास्यन्ति ॥
that king has many friends whom he will set against you with the same wealth (that is acquired with your help at my expense), and who will fall upon you from all sides.
english translation
mitravAMz ca sa rAjA, bhUyaz ca etena arthena mitrANy udyojayiSyati yAni tvA sarvato abhiyAsyanti ॥
