Arthashastra
शूरैस् त्यक्त आत्मभिः सह योद्धुं साहसम्, जन क्षयम् उभयतः कर्तुम् अधर्मः, दृष्टम् अर्थं मित्रम् अदुष्टं च त्यक्तुम् अर्थ अतिक्रमः ॥
it is danger to fight with men who are reckless of their own lives; it is sin to cause the loss of life on both sides; it is violation of wealth to abandon the wealth at hand and the friend of no mean character (meaning the addresser himself).
english translation
zUrais tyakta AtmabhiH saha yoddhuM sAhasam, jana kSayam ubhayataH kartum adharmaH, dRSTam arthaM mitram aduSTaM ca tyaktum artha atikramaH ॥
