पुरुष संधिं याचेत, दूष्य अमित्र अटवी बलम् अस्मै दद्याद् योग पुरुष अधिष्ठितम् ॥

A man should seek an alliance; he should give him the strength of an army, a corrupt enemy, or a forest, controlled by a man of yoga.

english translation

puruSa saMdhiM yAceta, dUSya amitra aTavI balam asmai dadyAd yoga puruSa adhiSThitam ॥

तथा कुर्याद् यथा उभय विनाशः स्यात् ॥

so that both his enemy and his own undesirable army may perish.

english translation

tathA kuryAd yathA ubhaya vinAzaH syAt ॥

तीक्ष्ण बलं वा अस्मै दद्याद् यद् अवमानितं विकुर्वीत, मौलम् अनुरक्तं वा यद् अस्य व्यसने अपकुर्यात् ॥

Alternatively , one may give the opponent an army composed of fierce spies, those who, feeling disrespected, would turn hostile, or those traditional and loyal troops who would abandon him in times of trouble.

tIkSNa balaM vA asmai dadyAd yad avamAnitaM vikurvIta, maulam anuraktaM vA yad asya vyasane apakuryAt ॥

कोश संधिं याचेत, सारम् अस्मै दद्याद् यस्य क्रेतारं न अधिगच्छेत्, कुप्यम् अयुद्ध योग्यं वा ॥

if the enemy desires to make peace on condition of his paying certain amount of wealth, he may give the enemy such precious articles as do not find a purchaser or such raw products as are of no use in war.

english translation

koza saMdhiM yAceta, sAram asmai dadyAd yasya kretAraM na adhigacchet, kupyam ayuddha yogyaM vA ॥

भूमि संधिं याचेत, प्रत्यादेयां नित्य अमित्राम् अनपाश्रयां महा क्षय व्यय निवेशां वा अस्मै भूमिं दद्यात् ॥

if the enemy desires to make peace on condition of his ceding a part of his land, he should provide the enemy with that kind of land which he can recover, which is always at the mercy of another enemy, which possesses no protective defences

english translation

bhUmi saMdhiM yAceta, pratyAdeyAM nitya amitrAm anapAzrayAM mahA kSaya vyaya nivezAM vA asmai bhUmiM dadyAt ॥
