तेषाम् अभ्यवपत्त्या धर्म विजयी तुष्यति ॥
Of these, the just conqueror is satisfied with mere obeisance.

teSAm abhyavapattyA dharma vijayI tuSyati ॥

Hence, a weak king should seek his protection.

tam abhyavapadyeta, pareSAm api bhayAt ॥

Fearing his own enemies, the greedy conqueror is satisfied with what he can safely gain in land or money.

bhUmi dravya haraNena lobha vijayI tuSyati ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतम् अर्थेन अभ्यवपद्येत ॥
Hence, a weak king should satisfy such a conqueror with wealth.

tam arthena abhyavapadyeta ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptभूमि द्रव्य पुत्र दार प्राण हरणेन असुर विजयी ॥
The demon-like conqueror satisfies himself not merely by seizing the land, treasure, sons and wives of the conquered, but by taking the life of the latter.
