भवति चात्र- स्वयम्भुवा प्रोक्तमिदं सनातनं पठेद्धि यः काशिपतिप्रकाशितम् | स पुण्यकर्मा भुवि पूजितो नृपैरसुक्षये शक्रसलोकतां व्रजेत् ||४१|| इति सुश्रुतसंहितायां सूत्रस्थाने वेदोत्पत्तिर्नाम प्रथमोऽध्यायः ||

The man who reads this Eternal Science of Medicine (Ayurveda-Shastram) discoursed by the self-origined Brahma and propagated by the King of Kasi, becomes noted for his piety, is honoured by the kings on earth, and attains to the region of Indra (the lord of the celestials) after death.Thus ends the first chapter of the Sutra-Sthana in the Sushruta Samhita which deals with the origin of the Ayurveda.

english translation

bhavati cAtra- svayambhuvA proktamidaM sanAtanaM paTheddhi yaH kAzipatiprakAzitam | sa puNyakarmA bhuvi pUjito nRpairasukSaye zakrasalokatAM vrajet ||41|| iti suzrutasaMhitAyAM sUtrasthAne vedotpattirnAma prathamo'dhyAyaH ||
