अथोदयस्तमययोः परिज्ञानम् प्रकीर्त्यते। दिवाकरकराक्रान्तमूर्तिनाम् अप्लतेजसाम् ॥

Now the knowledge of rising (udaya) and setting (asta) are being described. When the less bright planets face the brilliant rays of sun, they are overwhelmed and they are said to set.

सूर्याद् अभ्यधिकाः पश्चाद् अस्तम् जीवकुजार्जजाः। ऊनाः प्रागुदयम् यान्ति शुक्रज्ञौ वक्रिणौ तथा॥

If the true longtitude of the planets (grahaspasta) is greater than the longtitude of the sun (suryaspasta), Jupiter, Mars and Saturn sets in the west. If their longtitude is less than that of the sun, they rise in the east. Similar is the case with retrograde Venus and Mercury.

ऊना विवस्वतः प्राच्याम् अस्तम् चन्द्रज्ञभार्गवाः। व्रजन्त्य् अभ्यधिकाः पस्चाद् उदयम् शीघ्रयायिनः॥

The moon, Mercury and Venus; these three swift-moving planets set in the east when their longtitude is less than that of the sun; if greater than they rise in the west.

सूर्यास्तकालिकौ पश्चात् प्राच्याम् उदयकालिकौ। दिवा चार्कग्रहौ कुर्याद् दृक्कर्माथ ग्रहस्य तु॥

Find the true longtitude of the planets and of the sun for the time of sunset, if in the west, and for the time of sunrise if in the east. After this, perform the process of dåkkarma for the planets.

ततो लग्नान्तरप्राणाह् कालाम्शाः षष्टिभाजिताः। प्रतीच्याम् षड्भयुतयोस् तद्वल् लग्नान्तरासवः॥

In the east, longtitudes of the sun and of the planet, determine the interval in respirations between the two lagnas (lagnantarapräëa). This divided by 60 will give the time (kälangça). In the west, determine the interval in respirations of the two after adding six räçis (signs) to both.
