नक्षत्रग्रहयोगेषु ग्रहास्तोदयसाधने। शृङ्गोन्नतौ तु चन्द्रस्य दृक्कर्मादाव् इदम् स्मृतम्॥
In calculating the conjunction (yoga) of a planet and an asterism (nakshatra), in determining the setting and rising of a planet, and in finding the elevation of the moon's cusps, this operation for apparent longitude (drkkarman) is first prescribed.

तात्कालिकौ पुनः कार्यौ विक्षेपौ च तयोस् ततः। दिक्तुल्ये त्व् अन्तरम् भेदे योगः शिष्टम् ग्रहान्तरम्॥
Calculate again the longitudes of the two planets for the determined time, and from these their latitudes : when the latter are of the same direction, take -their difference; otherwise, their sum : the result is the interval of the planets.

कुजार्किज्ञामरेज्यानाम् त्रिम्शदर्धार्धवर्धिताः। विष्कम्भाश् चन्द्रकक्षायाम् भृगोः षष्टिर् उदाहृता॥
The diameters upon the moon's orbit of Mars, Saturn; Mercury, and Jupiter, are declared to be thirty, increased successively by half the half ; that of Venus is sixty.

त्रिचतुः कर्णयुत्याप्तास् ते द्विघ्नास् त्रिज्यया हताः। स्फुटाः स्वकर्णास् तिथ्याप्ता भवेयुर् मानलिप्तिकाः॥
These, divided by the sum of radius and the fourth hypothenuse, multiplied by two, and again multiplied by radius, are the respective corrected (sphuta) diameters : divided by fifteen, they are the measures (mdna) in minutes.

छायाभूमौ विपर्यस्ते स्वच्छायाग्रे तु दर्शयेत् । ग्रहः स्वदर्पणान्तःस्थः शङ्क्वग्रे सम्प्रदिश्यते॥
On a surface keep a cone (çanku) and show the sine of zenith distance and tip of the shadow on the other side. If at the extremity of the shadow you keep a mirror, then, you can see the planet on the other side of the mirror and the tip of the cone in a same straight line in the mirror.
