Srimad Bhagavatam
देवासुरेभ्यो मघवत्प्रधाना दक्षादयो ब्रह्मसुतास्तु तेषाम् । भव: पर: सोऽथ विरिञ्चवीर्य: स मत्परोऽहं द्विजदेवदेव: ॥ ५-५-२२ ॥
Superior to the asuras are the demigods, and of the demigods, Indra, the King of heaven, is supreme. Superior to Indra are the direct sons of Lord Brahmā, sons like King Dakṣa, and supreme among Brahmā’s sons is Lord Śiva. Since Lord Śiva is the son of Lord Brahmā, Brahmā is considered superior, but Brahmā is also subordinate to Me, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Because I am inclined to the brāhmaṇas, the brāhmaṇas are best of all. ॥ 5-5-22 ॥
english translation
असुरों से देवता और देवताओं में स्वर्ग का राजा इन्द्र श्रेष्ठ है। इन्द्र से भी श्रेष्ठ ब्रह्मा के पुत्र, जैसे कि राजा दक्ष और ब्रह्मा के इन पुत्रों में भगवान् शिव सर्वश्रेष्ठ हैं। शिव ब्रह्मा के पुत्र हैं इसलिए ब्रह्मा श्रेष्ठ माने जाते हैं किन्तु वे मुझ भगवान् के अधीन हैं। चूँकि मैं ब्राह्मणों को पूज्य मानता हूँ इसलिए ब्राह्मण सर्वश्रेष्ठ हैं। ॥ ५-५-२२ ॥
