य एष षोडशकलः पुरुषो भगवान् मनोमयोऽन्नमयोऽमृतमयो देवपितृमनुष्यभूतपशुपक्षिसरीसृपवीरुधां प्राणाप्यायनशीलत्वात्सर्वमय इति वर्णयन्ति ।। ५-२२-१० ।।

Because the moon is full of all potentialities, it represents the influence of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The moon is the predominating deity of everyone’s mind, and therefore the moon-god is called Manomaya. He is also called Annamaya because he gives potency to all herbs and plants, and he is called Amṛtamaya because he is the source of life for all living entities. The moon pleases the demigods, pitās, human beings, animals, birds, reptiles, trees, plants and all other living entities. Everyone is satisfied by the presence of the moon. Therefore the moon is also called Sarvamaya [all-pervading]. ।। 5-22-10 ।।

english translation

समस्त शक्तियों से पूर्ण होने के कारण चन्द्रमा श्रीभगवान् के प्रभाव का सूचक है। प्रत्येक व्यक्ति के मन का प्रमुख श्रीविग्रह होने के कारण चन्द्रमा मनोमय कहलाता है। वह अन्नमय भी कहलाता है क्योंकि वह समस्त वनस्पतियों तथा पौधों को शक्ति प्रदान करता है। समस्त जीवात्माओं का प्राणाधार होने से वह अमृतमय भी कहा जाता है। चन्द्रमा समस्त देवताओं, पितरों, मनुष्यों, पशुओं, पक्षियों, सरीसृपों, वृक्षों, पौधों तथा अन्य सभी जीवात्माओं को प्रसन्न करने वाला हैं। सभी प्राणी चन्द्रमा की उपस्थिति से संतुष्ट रहते हैं; फलत: वह “सर्वमय” भी कहलाता है। ।। ५-२२-१० ।।
