Shiva Purana
एतेषां नाममात्रेण त्रिपुंड्रं धारयेद्बुधाः १०२ब्। कुर्याद्वा षोडशस्थाने त्रिपुण्ड्रं तु समाहितः १०२ ।
By merely uttering the names of these (deities), a wise person should wear the Tripundra (three horizontal marks) on their forehead. Alternatively, one should apply the Tripundra at the sixteen places, concentrating and performing it with devotion.
english translation
eteSAM nAmamAtreNa tripuMDraM dhArayedbudhAH 102b। kuryAdvA SoDazasthAne tripuNDraM tu samAhitaH 102 ।
