Shiva Purana
दीपाज्ज्ञानमवाप्नोति तांबूलाद्भोगमाप्नुयात् । तस्मात्स्नानादिकं षट्कं प्रयत्नेन प्रसाधयेत् १७ ।
The lighting of the lamp is conducive to knowledge and the betel leaves are conducive to enjoyment. Hence in all worships these six items are scrupulously observed.

dIpAjjJAnamavApnoti tAMbUlAdbhogamApnuyAt । tasmAtsnAnAdikaM SaTkaM prayatnena prasAdhayet 17 ।
