सनत्कुमार उवाच॥ सप्त ते तपतां श्रेष्ठ स्वर्गे पितृगणास्स्मृताः ॥ चत्वारो मूर्त्तिमंतो वै त्रयश्चैव ह्यमूर्तयः ॥ १॥
Sanatkumāra said:— O foremost among the performers of penance, the Pitṛs in the heaven are seven in number. Four of them are embodied and three bodiless.
english translation
sanatkumAra uvAca॥ sapta te tapatAM zreSTha svarge pitRgaNAssmRtAH ॥ catvAro mUrttimaMto vai trayazcaiva hyamUrtayaH ॥ 1॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतान्यजंते देवगणा आद्या विप्रादयस्तथा॥ आप्याययंति ते पूर्वं सोमं योगबलेन वै ॥ २॥
The primordial groups of gods, brahmins and others worship them. With the power of their Yoga they strengthen and gladden Soma.
english translation
tAnyajaMte devagaNA AdyA viprAdayastathA॥ ApyAyayaMti te pUrvaM somaM yogabalena vai ॥ 2॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्माच्छ्राद्धानि देयानि योगिनां तु विशेषतः॥ सर्वेषां राजतं पात्रमथ वा रजतान्वितम्॥ ३॥
Therefore shraddhas should be performed especially for the yogis. A silver vessel or one with silver for all of them.
english translation
tasmAcchrAddhAni deyAni yoginAM tu vizeSataH॥ sarveSAM rAjataM pAtramatha vA rajatAnvitam॥ 3॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदत्तं स्वधां पुरोधाय श्राद्धे प्रीणाति वै पितॄन्॥ वह्नेराप्यायनं कृत्वा सोमस्य तु यमस्य वै॥ ४॥
Giving Svadha to the priest in Shraddha pleases the ancestors. After offering drinks to the fire and to the moon and to Yama.

dattaM svadhAM purodhAya zrAddhe prINAti vai pitRRn॥ vahnerApyAyanaM kRtvA somasya tu yamasya vai॥ 4॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptउदगायनमप्यग्नावग्न्यभावेऽप्सु वा पुनः ॥ पितॄन्प्रीणाति यो भक्त्या पितरः प्रीणयंति तम् ॥ ५॥
Even singing the rising sun in the absence of fire or fire or in water He who pleases the ancestors with devotion is pleased by the ancestors.

udagAyanamapyagnAvagnyabhAve'psu vA punaH ॥ pitRRnprINAti yo bhaktyA pitaraH prINayaMti tam ॥ 5॥
