Shiva Purana
तपो हि परमं प्रोक्तं तपसा विद्यते फलम् ॥ तपोरता हि ये नित्यं मोदंते सह दैवतैः ॥ ३९ ॥
Penance is the greatest rite. Fruits are achieved by penance. Those who are engaged in penance incessantly rejoice along with the gods.
english translation
tapo hi paramaM proktaM tapasA vidyate phalam ॥ taporatA hi ye nityaM modaMte saha daivataiH ॥ 39 ॥
