॥ सनत्कुमार उवाच ॥ पानीयदानं परमं दानानामुत्तमं सदा ॥ सर्वेषां जीवपुंजानां तर्पणं जीवनं स्मृतम् ॥ १ ॥
Sanatkumāra said:— The gift of drink is the greatest and the most excellent of all gifts. Water the enlivener is the most satisfying to all living beings.
english translation
॥ sanatkumAra uvAca ॥ pAnIyadAnaM paramaM dAnAnAmuttamaM sadA ॥ sarveSAM jIvapuMjAnAM tarpaNaM jIvanaM smRtam ॥ 1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptप्रपादानमतः कुर्यात्सुस्नेहादनिवारितम् ॥ जलाश्रयविनिर्माणं महानन्दकरं भवेत् ॥ २॥
Hence one should make gifts of drinking watersheds lovingly and unrestrictedly. Making of water bases, tanks etc. is the cause of great bliss.
english translation
prapAdAnamataH kuryAtsusnehAdanivAritam ॥ jalAzrayavinirmANaM mahAnandakaraM bhavet ॥ 2॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइह लोके परे वापि सत्यं सत्यं न संशयः॥ तस्माद्वापीश्च कूपांश्च तडागान्कारयेन्नरः ॥ ३॥
It is truthful, really truthful. There is no doubt in this, here and hereafter. Men should cause tanks, wells and lakes to be dug therefore.
english translation
iha loke pare vApi satyaM satyaM na saMzayaH॥ tasmAdvApIzca kUpAMzca taDAgAnkArayennaraH ॥ 3॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअर्द्धं पापस्य हरति पुरुषस्य विकर्मणः ॥ कूपः प्रवृत्तपानीयः सुप्रवृत्तस्य नित्यशः ॥ ४ ॥
A well that abounds in water removes half of the sin of the man who causes it to be dug.
english translation
arddhaM pApasya harati puruSasya vikarmaNaH ॥ kUpaH pravRttapAnIyaH supravRttasya nityazaH ॥ 4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसर्वं तारयते वंशं यस्य खाते जलाशये ॥ गावः पिबंति विप्राश्च साधवश्च नरास्सदा ॥ ५ ॥
If cows drink and good men and brahmins make use of the water in a water-base dug by a man, the whole family is redeemed.
english translation
sarvaM tArayate vaMzaM yasya khAte jalAzaye ॥ gAvaH pibaMti viprAzca sAdhavazca narAssadA ॥ 5 ॥
