।। ऋषय ऊचुः ।। जगत्पिता शिवः प्रोक्तो जगन्माता शिवा मता ।। तस्माद्देया त्वया कन्या शंकराय महात्मने ।। १ ।।

sanskrit

The sages said: Śiva is the father of the universe. Pārvatī is the mother of the universe. Hence your daughter shall be given to Śiva, the supreme soul.

english translation
