न बाला न च वृद्धासि तरुणी भासि शोभना ॥ कथं पतिं विना तीक्ष्णं तपश्चरसि वै वने ॥११॥
You are neither a small girl nor an old woman. You appear to be an auspicious young woman. How is it that you are performing this penance even when you are unmarried.
english translation
na bAlA na ca vRddhAsi taruNI bhAsi zobhanA ॥ kathaM patiM vinA tIkSNaM tapazcarasi vai vane ॥11॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकि त्वं तपस्विनी भद्रे कस्यचित्सहचारिणी ॥ तपस्वी स न पुष्णाति देवि त्वां च गतोऽन्यतः ॥ १२ ॥
O gentle lady, are you the wife of an ascetic who does not provide you with food and shelter and so leaving you has gone to another place?
english translation
ki tvaM tapasvinI bhadre kasyacitsahacAriNI ॥ tapasvI sa na puSNAti devi tvAM ca gato'nyataH ॥ 12 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवद कस्य कुले जाता कः पिता तव का विधा ॥ महासौभाग्यरूपा त्वं वृथा तव तपोरतिः ॥ १३ ॥
Tell me, in which family are you born? Who is your father? What are your undertakings? You are very fortunate. Futile is your interest in penance.
english translation
vada kasya kule jAtA kaH pitA tava kA vidhA ॥ mahAsaubhAgyarUpA tvaM vRthA tava taporatiH ॥ 13 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकिं त्वं वेदप्रसूर्लक्ष्मीः किं सुरूपा सरस्वती ॥ एतासु मध्ये का वा त्वं नाहं तर्कितुमुत्सहे ॥ १४ ॥
Are you the mother of the Vedas? Are you Lakṣmī or Sarasvatī? I dare not guess who you are?
english translation
kiM tvaM vedaprasUrlakSmIH kiM surUpA sarasvatI ॥ etAsu madhye kA vA tvaM nAhaM tarkitumutsahe ॥ 14 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscript॥ पार्वत्युवाच ॥ नाहं वेदप्रसूर्विप्र न लक्ष्मीश्च सरस्वती ॥ अहं हिमाचलसुता सांप्रतं नाम पार्वती ॥१५॥
Pārvatī said: O brahmin, I am not the mother of the Vedas, nor Lakṣmī nor Sarasvatī. I am the daughter of Himācala and my name is Pārvatī.

॥ pArvatyuvAca ॥ nAhaM vedaprasUrvipra na lakSmIzca sarasvatI ॥ ahaM himAcalasutA sAMprataM nAma pArvatI ॥15॥
