।। ब्रह्मोवाच ।। अथ ते निर्जरास्सर्वे सुप्रणम्य प्रजेश्वरम् ।। तुष्टुवुः परया भक्त्या तारकेण प्रपीडिताः।।१।।

sanskrit

Brahmā said: The gods terribly tormented by Tāraka, bowed to and eulogised me, the lord of subjects with great devotion.

english translation

|| brahmovAca || atha te nirjarAssarve supraNamya prajezvaram || tuSTuvuH parayA bhaktyA tArakeNa prapIDitAH||1||

अहं श्रुत्वामरनुतिं यथार्थां हृदयंगमा।। सुप्रसन्नतरो भूत्वा प्रत्यवोचं दिवौकसः ।।२।।

On hearing the eulogy of the gods pleasing and true to facts I was highly pleased and replied to the heaven-dwellers thus.

english translation

ahaM zrutvAmaranutiM yathArthAM hRdayaMgamA|| suprasannataro bhUtvA pratyavocaM divaukasaH ||2||

स्वागतं स्वाधिकारा वै निर्विघ्नाः संति वस्तुतः ।। किमर्थमागता यूयमत्र सर्वे वदंतु मे ।। ३ ।।

sanskrit

O gods, welcome to you. I hope you are all fulfilling your duties without obstacles. Why have you all come here? Tell me.

english translation

svAgataM svAdhikArA vai nirvighnAH saMti vastutaH || kimarthamAgatA yUyamatra sarve vadaMtu me || 3 ||

इति श्रुत्वा वचो मे ते नत्वा सर्वे दिवौकसः ।। मामूचुर्नतका दीनास्तारकेण प्रपीडिताः ।।४।।

On hearing my words those gods bowed to me duly and spoke. Being tormented by Tāraka they were in a piteous plight.

english translation

iti zrutvA vaco me te natvA sarve divaukasaH || mAmUcurnatakA dInAstArakeNa prapIDitAH ||4||

देवा ऊचुः ।। लोकेश तारको दैत्यो वरेण तव दर्पित ।। निरस्यास्मान्हठात्स्थानान्यग्रहीन्नो बलात्स्वयम् ।।५।।

sanskrit

The gods said: O lord of the worlds, thanks to the boon received from you. The demon Tāraka is very haughty. Driving us out with force he has taken possession of our positions.

english translation

devA UcuH || lokeza tArako daityo vareNa tava darpita || nirasyAsmAnhaThAtsthAnAnyagrahInno balAtsvayam ||5||
