नारद उवाच ॥ विधे तात त्वया शैववर प्राज्ञाद्भुता कथा ॥ वर्णिता करुणां कृत्वा प्रीतिर्मे वर्द्धिताधिकम् ॥१॥
Nārada said: O Brahmā, O dear one, O foremost among the devotees of Śiva, O intelligent one, taking pity on me you have narrated a wonderful story to me and have increased my pleasure thereby.
english translation
विधे गते स्वकं धाम मयि वै दिव्यदर्शगे ॥ ततः किमभवत्तात कृपया तद्वदाधुना ॥ २ ॥
O Brahmā, when I, of divine vision, had gone to my abode what happened thereafter? Please tell me now.
english translation
॥ ब्रह्मोवाच ॥ गते त्वयि मुने स्वर्गे कियत्काले गते सति ॥ मेना प्राप्येकदा शैलनिकटं प्रणनाम सा ॥ ३ ॥
Brahmā said: After you had gone to heaven, some time passed. Once Menā approached the lord of mountains and bowed to him.
english translation
स्थित्वा सविनयम्प्राह स्वनाथं गिरिकामिनी ॥ तत्र शैलाधिनाथं सा प्राणप्रियसुता सती ॥ ४ ॥
After waiting there for some time with humility, the beloved of the mountain addressed her lord; the chaste lady who loved her daughter as ardently as her own life spoke to the lord of mountains thus.
english translation
मेनोवाच ॥ मुनिवाक्यं न बुद्धं मे सम्यङ् नारीस्वभावतः ॥ विवाहं कुरु कन्यायास्सुन्दरेण वरेण ह ॥ ५ ॥
Menā said: As but is natural to women, the words of the sage have not been understood by me well. (I think it is better) that you perform the marriage of our daughter with a handsome bridegroom.
