ब्रह्मोवाच ॥ पाद्मे कल्पे मम सुरा ब्रह्मणो मानसात्सुतात् ॥ पुलस्त्याद्विश्रवा जज्ञे तस्य वैश्रवणस्सुतः ॥१॥
Brahmā said: In the Kalpa called Pādma, I created my mental son Pulastya whose son Viśravas begot the son Vaiśravaṇa.
english translation
brahmovAca ॥ pAdme kalpe mama surA brahmaNo mAnasAtsutAt ॥ pulastyAdvizravA jajJe tasya vaizravaNassutaH ॥1॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतेनेयमलका भुक्ता पुरी विश्वकृता कृता ॥ आराध्य त्र्यंबकं देवमत्युग्रतपसा पुरा ॥ २ ॥
He propitiated the three-eyed God Śiva, with a very severe penance and enjoyed the city of Alakā built by Viśvakṛt.
english translation
teneyamalakA bhuktA purI vizvakRtA kRtA ॥ ArAdhya tryaMbakaM devamatyugratapasA purA ॥ 2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptव्यतीते तत्र कल्पे वै प्रवृत्ते मेघवाहने ॥ याज्ञदत्तिरसौ श्रीदस्तपस्तेपे सुदुस्सहम् ॥ ३ ॥
When that Kalpa was over and the Meghavāhana Kalpa had started, the son of Yajñadatta, Śrīda, performed a severe penance.
english translation
vyatIte tatra kalpe vai pravRtte meghavAhane ॥ yAjJadattirasau zrIdastapastepe sudussaham ॥ 3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptभक्ति प्रभावं विज्ञाय शंभोस्तद्दीपमात्रतः ॥ पुरा पुरारेस्संप्राप्य काशिकां चित्प्रकाशिकाम् ॥ ४ ॥
Realising the efficacy of devotion to Śiva accruing from the mere illumination (of his temple) with lamps, he reached Kāśī॥ 1॥ for the illumination of his thought.
english translation
bhakti prabhAvaM vijJAya zaMbhostaddIpamAtrataH ॥ purA purAressaMprApya kAzikAM citprakAzikAm ॥ 4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशिवैकादशमुद्बोध्य चित्तरत्नप्रदीपकैः॥ अनन्यभक्तिस्नेहाढ्यस्तन्मयो ध्याननिश्चलः॥५॥
Under the lustre of the gems of the mind, he repeated the mantras of eleven Rudras with loyal devotion and unswerving concentration of the mind.
