ब्रह्मोवाच ॥ श्रुत्वा तथा स वृत्तांतं प्राक्तनं स्वं विनिंद्य च ॥ कांचिद्दिशं समालोक्य निर्ययौ दीक्षितांगजः ॥ १ ॥
Brahmā said: Having heard that account, and condemning his own past actions, the son of Dīkṣita looked toward a certain direction and departed.
english translation
brahmovAca ॥ zrutvA tathA sa vRttAMtaM prAktanaM svaM viniMdya ca ॥ kAMciddizaM samAlokya niryayau dIkSitAMgajaH ॥ 1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकियच्चिरं ततो गत्वा यज्ञदत्तात्मजस्स हि ॥ दुष्टो गुणनिधिस्तस्थौ गतोत्साहो विसर्जितः ॥२ ॥
After wandering aimlessly for a long time, he, the wicked fellow, felt the abandonment keenly and losing all hopes halted at a place.
english translation
kiyacciraM tato gatvA yajJadattAtmajassa hi ॥ duSTo guNanidhistasthau gatotsAho visarjitaH ॥2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptचिंतामवाप महतीं क्व यामि करवाणि किम् ॥ नाहमभ्यस्तविद्योऽस्मि न चैवातिधनोऽस्म्यहम् ॥ ३ ॥
He thought to himself: “Where am I to go? What shall I do? I have not studied much, nor am I rich enough.

ciMtAmavApa mahatIM kva yAmi karavANi kim ॥ nAhamabhyastavidyo'smi na caivAtidhano'smyaham ॥ 3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदेशांतरे यस्य धनं स सद्यस्सुखमेधते ॥ भयमस्ति धने चौरात्स विघ्नस्सर्वतोभवः ॥४॥
Only a wealthy man can be happy in a foreign land, although he has to face the fear of thieves there. Of course this fear is present everywhere.

dezAMtare yasya dhanaM sa sadyassukhamedhate ॥ bhayamasti dhane caurAtsa vighnassarvatobhavaH ॥4॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयाजकस्य कुले जन्म कथं मे व्यसनं महत्॥ अहो बलीयान्हि विधिर्भाविकर्मानुसंधयेत् ॥५॥
I am born in the family of priests officiating in sacrifices. Why am I reduced to this wretched plight? Fate is powerful indeed, controlling all our future actions.

yAjakasya kule janma kathaM me vyasanaM mahat॥ aho balIyAnhi vidhirbhAvikarmAnusaMdhayet ॥5॥
