व्यास उवाच ॥ श्रुत्वा काल्युक्तमीशानो किं चकार किमुक्तवान् ॥ तत्त्वं वद महाप्राज्ञ परं कौतूहलं मम॥१॥
Vyāsa said: O intelligent one, on hearing the narrative of Kālī what did Śiva say? What did he do? Please narrate to me. I am eager to know it.
english translation
सनत्कुमार उवाच॥ काल्युक्तं वचनं श्रुत्वा शंकरः परमेश्वरः ॥ महालीलाकरश्शंभुर्जहासाश्वासयञ्च ताम्॥२॥
Sanatkumāra said: On hearing the words of Kālī, lord Śiva, the actor of great divine sports, laughed. Śiva consoled her.
english translation
व्योमवाणीं समाकर्ण्य तत्त्वज्ञानविशारदः॥ ययौ स्वयं च समरे स्वगणैस्सह शंकरः ॥३॥
On hearing the celestial voice, Śiva, an expert in the knowledge of principles, went himself to the battle along with his Gaṇas.
english translation
महावृषभमारूढो वीरभद्रादिसंयुतः ॥ भैरवैः क्षेत्रपालैश्च स्वसमानैस्समन्वितः ॥४॥
He was seated on his great bull and surrounded by Vīrabhadra and others, the Bhairavas and the Kṣetrapālas all equal in valour to him.
english translation
रणं प्राप्तो महेशश्च वीररूपं विधाय च ॥ विरराजाधिकं तत्र रुद्रो मूर्त इवांतकः॥५॥
Assuming a heroic form, lord Śiva entered the battle ground. There Śiva shone well as the embodied form of the annihilator.
