भक्तेर्मूलं तु सत्कर्म स्वेष्टदेवादिपूजनम् ॥ तन्मूलं सद्गुरुः प्रोक्तस्तन्मूलं संगतिः सताम् ॥ ७४ ।'

sanskrit

The root of devotion is good action and the worship of one’s own favourite deity. The root of that is the good preceptor. A good preceptor is secured only through association with good people.

english translation

bhaktermUlaM tu satkarma sveSTadevAdipUjanam ॥ tanmUlaM sadguruH proktastanmUlaM saMgatiH satAm ॥ 74 ।'
