पितोवाच॥ मया तु गम्यते पुत्र कार्यार्थं कुत्रचित्पुनः ॥ धेनुर्दोह्या त्वया वत्स सावधानादियं निजा ॥ ४१॥
The father said:— O son, I am going out on some business. Dear, you shall carefully milk our cow.
english translation
सूत उवाच ॥ इत्युक्त्वा ब्राह्मणवरस्स जगाम च कुत्रचित् ॥ पुत्रः समुत्थितस्तत्र वत्सं च मुक्तवांस्तदा ॥ ४२॥
Sūta said:— After saying this, the brahmin left the house. Thereafter the son got up and untied the calf.

माता च तस्य दोहार्थमाजगाम स्वयन्तदा ॥ द्विजपुत्रस्तदा वत्सं खिन्नं कीलेन ताडितम् ॥ ४३॥
His mother then came by herself to milk him Then the son of the brahmin struck the calf with a nail.

बंधनार्थं हि गोः पार्श्वमनयद्दुग्धलालसः ॥ पुनर्गौश्च तदा क्रुद्धा शृंगेनाताडयच्च तम् ॥ ४४ ॥
The cow, thirsty for milk, brought him to the side to tie him up. Then the cow became angry and struck him with her horn.

पपात मूर्च्छां संप्राप्य सोपि मर्मणि ताडितः ॥ लोकाश्च मिलितास्तत्र गवा बालो विहिंसितः॥ ४५॥
He fell unconscious and was also struck in the heart. The worlds gathered there and the cows and the child were killed.
