Shiva Purana
नमस्कारं ततो ध्यानं जपः प्रोक्तो गुरोर्मनोः ॥ अन्यथा पंचवर्णेन तोषयेत्तेन शंकरम् ॥ ५७ ॥
Obeisance and meditation shall follow and the mantra taught by the preceptor shall be used for Japa. Or the devotee shall propitiate Śiva by means of the five-syllabled mantra.
english translation
namaskAraM tato dhyAnaM japaH prokto gurormanoH ॥ anyathA paMcavarNena toSayettena zaMkaram ॥ 57 ॥
