परीक्षार्थं हरेरीशः कमलेषु महेश्वरः ॥ गोपयामास कमलं तदैकं भुवनेश्वरः ॥ २ ॥

In order to test Viṣṇu, Śiva, the lord of the worlds concealed one of the lotus-flowers.
