स्तुतिं च विविधां कृत्वा प्रणिपत्य शिवं मुदा ॥ जयं च प्रार्थयामास रावणाजौ तदात्मनः ॥ ३६ ॥
Eulogising in diverse ways and bowing to Śiva joyously he requested for his victory in the imminent fight with Rāvaṇa.
english translation
ततः प्रसन्नहृदयो रामभक्त्या महेश्वरः ॥ जयोस्तु ते महाराज प्रीत्या स पुनरब्रवीत् ॥ ३७ ॥
Delighted in his heart at Rāma’s devotion, lord Śiva said lovingly—“O great king, may you be victorious”.
english translation
शिवदत्तं जयं प्राप्य ह्यनुज्ञां समवाप्य च ॥ पुनश्च प्रार्थयामास सांजलिर्नतमस्तकः ॥ ३८ ॥
Securing the blessing of victory granted by Śiva and receiving the permission of the lord he prayed again with palms joined in reverence and head bent down.
english translation
॥ राम उवाच ॥ त्वया स्थेयमिह स्वामिंल्लोकानां पावनाय च ॥ परेषामुपकारार्थं यदि तुष्टोऽसि शंकर ॥ ३९ ॥
Rāma said:— O Śiva, if you are pleased, you shall stay here, O lord, to sanctify the worlds and tç render help to the people.
english translation
॥ सूत उवाच ॥ इत्युक्तस्तु शिवस्तत्र लिंगरूपोऽभवत्तदा ॥ रामेश्वरश्च नाम्ना वै प्रसिद्धो जगतीतले ॥ ४० ॥
Sūla said:— Thus implored Śiva took up the phallic image named Rāmeśvara. It is now famous on the surface of the world.
