सर्वेषां कर्मणां नाशो नास्ति काशीं पुरीं विना ।। सर्वं च सुलभं तीर्थं दुर्ल्लभा काशिका पुरी ।। ४६।।

Except in Kāśī in no other place can all the actions be wiped off. The other holy centres are easily accessible but the city of Kāśī is difficult of access.

english translation

sarveSAM karmaNAM nAzo nAsti kAzIM purIM vinA || sarvaM ca sulabhaM tIrthaM durllabhA kAzikA purI || 46||

पूर्वजन्मकृतं चेद्वै काशीदर्शनमादरात् ।। तदा काशीं च संप्राप्य लभेन्मृत्युं न चान्यथा ।। ४७।।

If Kāśī had been visited with devotion in the previous birth, the person in the present birth reaches Kāśī and dies there and not otherwise.

pUrvajanmakRtaM cedvai kAzIdarzanamAdarAt || tadA kAzIM ca saMprApya labhenmRtyuM na cAnyathA || 47||

काशीं प्राप्य नरो यस्तु गंगायां स्नानमाचरेत् ।। तदा च क्रियमाणस्य संचितस्यापि संक्षयः ।। ४८ ।।

If after reaching Kāśī a man takes his ceremonial bath in the Gaṅges, the two types of actions viz. the current and the hoarded are destroyed.

english translation

kAzIM prApya naro yastu gaMgAyAM snAnamAcaret || tadA ca kriyamANasya saMcitasyApi saMkSayaH || 48 ||

प्रारब्धं न विना भोगो नश्य तीति सुनिश्चितम् ।। मृतिश्च तस्य संजाता तदा तस्य क्षयो भवेत् ।। ४९ ।।

It is certain that the Prārabdha is not destroyed except through enjoyment. When that is enjoyed it is also destroyed.

prArabdhaM na vinA bhogo nazya tIti sunizcitam || mRtizca tasya saMjAtA tadA tasya kSayo bhavet || 49 ||

पूर्वं चैव कृता काशी पश्चात्पापं समाचरेत् ।। तद्बीजेन बलवता नीयते काशिका पुनः ।। ५०।।

If a man visits Kāśī first and commits sin afterwards, the seed of that action takes him again to Kāśī.

english translation

pUrvaM caiva kRtA kAzI pazcAtpApaM samAcaret || tadbIjena balavatA nIyate kAzikA punaH || 50||
