तत्पत्नी च तदा साध्वी दक्षिणा नाम विश्रुता ॥ निधानं पार्थिवं प्रीत्या चकार नृपवल्लभा ॥ ४६ ॥
The king’s beloved wife, the chaste lady, famous as Dakṣiṇā performed the worship of the earthen idol with pleasure.

दंपती त्वेकभावेन शंकरं भक्तशंकरम् ॥ भेजाते तत्र तौ नित्यं शिवाराधनतत्परौ ॥ ४७ ॥
The couple, devoutly engaged in the propitiation of Śiva worshipped the deity, the benefactor of the devotees with single-mindedness.

राक्षसो यज्ञकर्मादि वरदर्प विमोहितः ॥ लोपयामास तत्सर्वं मह्यं वै दीयतामिति ॥ ४८॥
But the Rākṣasa deluded by the arrogance due to the boon spoiled all sacrificial rites saying, “Let the offerings be made to me.”

बहुसैन्यसमायुक्तो राक्षसानां दुरात्मनाम ॥ चकार वसुधां सर्वां स्ववशे चर्षिसत्तमाः ॥ ४९ ॥
O excellent sages, with a huge army of wicked Rākṣasas he put the entire earth under his control.

वेदधर्मं शास्त्रधर्मं स्मृतिधर्मं पुराणजम् ॥ लोपयित्वा च तत्सर्वं बुभुजे स्वयमूर्जितः ॥ ५० ॥
Defiling the Vedic rites and the sacred rituals of Śāstras, Smṛtis and Purāṇas, the powerful demon enjoyed everything himself.
