सूत उवाच ।। गंगातीरे सुप्रसिद्धा काशी खलु विमुक्तिदा ।। सा हि लिंगमयी ज्ञेया शिववासस्थली स्मृता ।। १ ।।

Sūta said:— Kāśī on the banks of the Gaṅgā is very famous as the bestower of liberation. It is full of phallic images. It is the abode of Śiva.

english translation

sUta uvAca || gaMgAtIre suprasiddhA kAzI khalu vimuktidA || sA hi liMgamayI jJeyA zivavAsasthalI smRtA || 1 ||

लिंगं तत्रैव मुख्यं च सम्प्रोक्तमविमुक्तकम् ।। कृत्तिवासेश्वरः साक्षात्तत्तुल्यो वृद्धबालकः ।। २।।

The important phallic image there, is Avimuktaka. Kṛttivāseśvara is in the forms of an aged man and a boy.

liMgaM tatraiva mukhyaM ca samproktamavimuktakam || kRttivAsezvaraH sAkSAttattulyo vRddhabAlakaH || 2||

तिलभाण्डेश्वरश्चैव दशाश्वमेध एव च ।। गंगा सागरसंयोगे संगमेश इति स्मृतः ।। ३।।

Tilabhāṇḍeśvara is in Daśāśvamedha. Saṅgameśa is at the place where the Gaṅgā meets the sea.

tilabhANDezvarazcaiva dazAzvamedha eva ca || gaMgA sAgarasaMyoge saMgameza iti smRtaH || 3||

भूतेश्वरो यः संप्रोक्तो भक्तसर्वार्थदः सदा।। नारीश्वर इति ख्यातः कौशिक्याः स समीपगः ।। ४ ।।

What is called as Bhūteśvara is the bestower of all to the devotees. What is famous as Nārīśvara stands near the Kauśikī river.

bhUtezvaro yaH saMprokto bhaktasarvArthadaH sadA|| nArIzvara iti khyAtaH kauzikyAH sa samIpagaH || 4 ||

वर्तते गण्डकीतीरे बटुकेश्वर एव सः।। पूरेश्वर इति ख्यातः फल्गुतीरे सुखप्रदः ।। ५।।

Vaṭukeśvara is on the bank of the Gaṇḍakī river. Pūreśvara stands on the bank of the Phalgu river and is the bestower of happiness.
