स वै मणिः कौस्तुभवद्द्योतमानोर्कसन्निभः ।। ध्यातो दृष्टः श्रुतो वापि मंगलं यच्छति ध्रुवम् ।। ६ ।।

The jewel was as brilliant as the sun. It shone like Kaustubha. It blessed auspiciously when meditated upon, heard of or sighted.

sa vai maNiH kaustubhavaddyotamAnorkasannibhaH || dhyAto dRSTaH zruto vApi maMgalaM yacchati dhruvam || 6 ||

तस्य कांतितलस्पृष्टं कांस्यं ताम्रमयं त्रपु ।। पाषाणादिकमन्यद्वा द्रुतं भवति हाटकम् ।। ७ ।।

Any thing made of bell-metal, copper, tin or stone touched with its brilliant surface turned into gold.

tasya kAMtitalaspRSTaM kAMsyaM tAmramayaM trapu || pASANAdikamanyadvA drutaM bhavati hATakam || 7 ||

स तु चिन्तामणिं कंठे बिभ्रद्राजा शिवाश्रयः ।। चन्द्रसेनो रराजाति देवमध्येव भानुमान् ।। ८।।

Wearing that gem round his neck the king Candrasena, dependent on Śiva shone well like the sun in the midst of gods.

english translation

sa tu cintAmaNiM kaMThe bibhradrAjA zivAzrayaH || candraseno rarAjAti devamadhyeva bhAnumAn || 8||

श्रुत्वा चिन्तामणिग्रीवं चन्द्रसेनं नृपोत्तमम् ।। निखिलाः क्षितिराजानस्तृष्णाक्षुब्धहृदोऽभवन् ।। ९ ।।

On hearing that the excellent king Candrasena had the Cintāmaṇi round his neck, the kings on the earth were agitated in their hearts due to greed.

zrutvA cintAmaNigrIvaM candrasenaM nRpottamam || nikhilAH kSitirAjAnastRSNAkSubdhahRdo'bhavan || 9 ||

नृपा मत्सरिणस्सर्वे तं मणिं चन्द्रसेनतः ।। नानोपायैरयाचंत देवलब्धमबुद्धयः ।। १० ।।

The kings ignorantly trying to rival with him, begged of Candrasena, that jewel secured from the god. They used various means to get the jewel.
