ऋषय ऊचुः ॥ महाकालसमाह्वस्थज्योतिर्लिंगस्य रक्षिणः ॥ भक्तानां महिमानं च पुनर्ब्रूहि महामते ॥ १ ॥
The sages said:— O most intelligent one, please mention again the greatness of the Jyotirliṅga Mahākāla, the protector of his devotees.
english translation
RSaya UcuH ॥ mahAkAlasamAhvasthajyotirliMgasya rakSiNaH ॥ bhaktAnAM mahimAnaM ca punarbrUhi mahAmate ॥ 1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसूत उवाच॥ शृणुतादरतो विप्रो भक्तरक्षाविधायिनः ॥ महाकालस्य लिंगस्य माहात्म्यं भक्तिवर्द्धनम् ॥ २ ॥
Sūta said:— O brahmins, listen with interest to the devotion enhancing greatness of Mahākāla, the protector of the devotees.
english translation
sUta uvAca॥ zRNutAdarato vipro bhaktarakSAvidhAyinaH ॥ mahAkAlasya liMgasya mAhAtmyaM bhaktivarddhanam ॥ 2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptउज्जयिन्यामभूद्राजा चन्द्रसेनाह्वयो महान् ॥ सर्वशास्त्रार्थतत्त्वज्ञश्शिवभक्तो जितेन्द्रियः ॥ ३ ॥
In Ujjayinī there was a king Candrasena, a devotee of Śiva, who had conquered his sense-organs and who knew the principles of all Śāstras.

ujjayinyAmabhUdrAjA candrasenAhvayo mahAn ॥ sarvazAstrArthatattvajJazzivabhakto jitendriyaH ॥ 3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्याभवत्सखा राज्ञो मणिभद्रो गणो द्विजाः ॥ गिरीशगणमुख्यश्च सर्वलोकनमस्कृतः ॥ ४ ॥
O brahmins, the Gaṇa Maṇibhadra, honoured by the people, the chief of the Gaṇas of Śiva, was a friend of that king.

tasyAbhavatsakhA rAjJo maNibhadro gaNo dvijAH ॥ girIzagaNamukhyazca sarvalokanamaskRtaH ॥ 4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएकदा स गणेन्द्रो हि प्रसन्नास्यो महामणिम् ॥ मणिभद्रो ददौ तस्मै चिंतामणिमुदारधीः ॥ ५॥
Once the liberal-minded Gaṇa-chief Maṇibhadra, gave him the great jewel Cintāmaṇi, out of pleasure.

ekadA sa gaNendro hi prasannAsyo mahAmaNim ॥ maNibhadro dadau tasmai ciMtAmaNimudAradhIH ॥ 5॥
