ज्ञात्वा विप्रसतीशापं मदयन्ती रतिप्रियम् ॥ पतिं निवारयामास वैधव्यादतिबिभ्यती ॥ २६ ॥
Madayantī who knew of the curse of the chaste brahmin lady prevented her husband who evinced a desire for sexual embrace. She was much frightened of widowhood.
english translation
jJAtvA viprasatIzApaM madayantI ratipriyam ॥ patiM nivArayAmAsa vaidhavyAdatibibhyatI ॥ 26 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअनपत्यो विनिर्विण्णो राज्यभोगेषु पार्थिवः ॥ विसृज्य सकलां लक्ष्मीं वनमेव जगाम ह ॥ २७ ॥
The issueless king became disgusted with kingly pleasures. Eschewing all riches he went to the forest.
english translation
anapatyo vinirviNNo rAjyabhogeSu pArthivaH ॥ visRjya sakalAM lakSmIM vanameva jagAma ha ॥ 27 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस्वपृष्ठतः समायान्तीं ब्रह्महत्यां सुदुःखदाम् ॥ ददर्श विकटाकारां तर्जयन्ती मुहुर्मुहुः ॥ २८ ॥
He saw the hideous form of Brahmahatyā closely following him, threatening him again and again and tormenting him.
english translation
svapRSThataH samAyAntIM brahmahatyAM suduHkhadAm ॥ dadarza vikaTAkArAM tarjayantI muhurmuhuH ॥ 28 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्या निर्भद्रमन्विच्छन् राजा निर्विण्णमानसः ॥ चकार नानोपायान्स जपव्रतमखादिकान् ॥ २९ ॥
Dejected in mind the king wanted to get rid of Brahmahatyā. He tried japas, holy rites, sacrifices and various other means.

tasyA nirbhadramanvicchan rAjA nirviNNamAnasaH ॥ cakAra nAnopAyAnsa japavratamakhAdikAn ॥ 29 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनानोपायैर्यदा राज्ञस्तीर्थस्नानादिभिर्द्विजाः ॥ न निवृत्ता ब्रह्महत्या मिथिलां स ययौ तदा ॥ ३०॥
O brahmins, when Brahmahatyā did not leave him inspite of the means like the ceremonial ablution in holy centres, the king went to Mithilā.
english translation
nAnopAyairyadA rAjJastIrthasnAnAdibhirdvijAH ॥ na nivRttA brahmahatyA mithilAM sa yayau tadA ॥ 30॥
