॥ श्रीदेव्युवाच ॥ उपदिष्टास्त्वया देव मंत्रास्सप्रणवा मताः ॥ तत्रादौ श्रोतुमिच्छामि प्रणवार्थं विनिश्चितम् ॥ २३॥
The goddess said:— O lord, you have discoursed on the Mantras including the Praṇava. There at the outset I wish to know the meaning of the Praṇava.
english translation
॥ zrIdevyuvAca ॥ upadiSTAstvayA deva maMtrAssapraNavA matAH ॥ tatrAdau zrotumicchAmi praNavArthaM vinizcitam ॥ 23॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकथम्प्रणव उत्पन्नः कथं प्रणव उच्यते ॥ मात्राः कति समाख्याताः कथं वेदादिरुच्यते ॥ २२॥
How did Praṇava originate? How is Praṇava mentioned? How many Mātrās have been mentioned? How is it that it is called the initial mantra of the Vedas?
english translation
kathampraNava utpannaH kathaM praNava ucyate ॥ mAtrAH kati samAkhyAtAH kathaM vedAdirucyate ॥ 22॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदेवताः कति च प्रोक्ताः कथं वेदादिभावना॥ क्रियाः कतिविधाः प्रोक्ता व्याप्यव्यापकता कथम्॥ २३॥
How many deities are mentioned? What is the concept of the Vedas thereto? What types of rites are mentioned? What is their cause and what is their result?

devatAH kati ca proktAH kathaM vedAdibhAvanA॥ kriyAH katividhAH proktA vyApyavyApakatA katham॥ 23॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptब्रह्माणि पंच मंत्रेऽस्मिन्कथं तिष्ठंत्यनुक्रमात्॥ कलाः कति समाख्याताः प्रपंचात्मकता कथम् ॥ २४॥

brahmANi paMca maMtre'sminkathaM tiSThaMtyanukramAt॥ kalAH kati samAkhyAtAH prapaMcAtmakatA katham ॥ 24॥
