व्यास उवाच ॥ साधु पृष्टमिदं विप्रा भवद्भिर्भाग्यवत्तमैः ॥ दुर्लभं हि शिवज्ञानं प्रणवार्थप्रकाशकम् ॥ १ ॥
Vyasa said. O brāhmaṇas you most fortunate ones have asked this well It is rare to know Lord Shiva which illuminates the meaning of the oṁkāra.
english translation
येषां प्रसन्नो भगवान्साक्षाच्छूलवरायुधः ॥ तेषामेव शिवज्ञानं प्रणवार्थप्रकाशकम ॥ २ ॥
The Supreme Personality of Godhead, who wields a trident and the best weapon, is pleased with them. Their very knowledge of Lord Shiva illuminates the meaning of the oṁkāra.
english translation
जायते न हि सन्देहो नेतरेषामिति श्रुतिः ॥। शिवभक्तिविहीनानामिति तत्त्वार्थनिश्चयः ॥ ३ ॥
There is no doubt that it is born and not others, as the scripture says. This is the conclusion of the true meaning of those devoid of devotion to Lord Shiva.

दीर्घसत्रेण युष्माभिर्भगवानम्बिकापतिः ॥ उपासित इतीदं मे दृष्टमद्य विनिश्चितम् ॥ ४॥
Lord Śiva, consort of Ambā, has been adored by you by long sacrifices. This I see actually.

तस्माद्वक्ष्यामि युष्माकमितिहासम्पुरातनम् ॥ उमामहेशसम्वादरूपमद्भुतमास्तिकाः ॥ ५॥
O devotees, I shall narrate to you an ancient story containing a wonderful dialogue between Umā and Śiva.
