Phaladeepika
आलिख्य सम्यग्भुवि राशिचक्रं ग्रहस्थितिं तज्जननप्रवृत्तम् । तत्तद्ग्रहर्क्षात्क्रमशोऽष्तवर्गं प्रोक्तं करोत्यक्षविधानमत्र ॥ २॥
Draw well on the ground the Rasi Chakra and post in the same in their proper places the several planets as they stood at the time of birth, Regulate the distribution of the beads in the manner directed (in the following Slokas), in the several Rasis, the reckoning in each case being made from the sign occupied by the particular planet for getting the Ashtakavarga.

Alikhya samyagbhuvi rAzicakraM grahasthitiM tajjananapravRttam । tattadgraharkSAtkramazo'StavargaM proktaM karotyakSavidhAnamatra ॥ 2॥
