अथ वर्णाः - श्यामो भवति शृङ्गारः सितो हास्यः प्रकीर्तितः । कपोतः करुणश्चैव रक्तो रौद्रः प्रकीर्तितः ॥ ४२॥
"Now, the colors (of the sentiments) are as follows: Shyamo (dark) is associated with Shṛṅgāra (the Erotic), Sito (white) is proclaimed as Hāsya (the Comic), Kapota (gray) is related to Karuṇa (the Pathetic), Rakta (red) is related to Raudra (the Furious)."
