गुरुर्गाथांशको यत्स्यात्सर्वपादेषु दृश्यते । श्रीरिति ख्यातनामा सा कीर्तिता प्रथमा ध्रुवा ॥ ४६॥

That metre in which a gāthā-portion consisting of long syllables (guru) is found in all the padas, is known by the name Śrī, and is declared to be the first Dhruvā.

english translation

gururgAthAMzako yatsyAtsarvapAdeSu dRzyate । zrIriti khyAtanAmA sA kIrtitA prathamA dhruvA ॥ 46॥

यथा । देवं शर्वमीशं वन्दे ॥ ४७॥

Example: I adore the god Śarva.

मध्यलघुनाथ विद्युत्पादे पादे समं विभक्तेन । आदिलघुना धृतिः स्याद्गणेन योज्या हि मात्रेण ॥ ४८॥

That metre in which the middle syllable is short, and in which the syllables are evenly distributed in each pāda like a flash of lightning (vidyut), is called Dhṛti when it begins with a short syllable. It should be employed with a gaṇa arrangement regulated by mātrās (metrical units).

madhyalaghunAtha vidyutpAde pAde samaM vibhaktena । AdilaghunA dhRtiH syAdgaNena yojyA hi mAtreNa ॥ 48॥

Example: Let Śaṃkarā who carries the Trident and creates the world, protect me.

लघुः स्यात् पदादौ त्रिके या धृतिः सा ॥ ५०॥

Dhṛti—When the first syllable in its feet of three syllables is short ॥ the metre is Dhṛti॥.
