वाच्यर्था नियताः सर्वे वाङ्मूला वाग्विनिःसृताः । तांस्तु यः स्तेनयेद् वाचं स सर्वस्तेयकृन्नरः ॥ २५६ ॥

All things (have their nature) determined by speech; speech is their root, and from speech they proceed; but he who is dishonest with respect to speech, is dishonest in everything.

english translation

vAcyarthA niyatAH sarve vAGmUlA vAgviniHsRtAH | tAMstu yaH stenayed vAcaM sa sarvasteyakRnnaraH || 256 ||

महर्षिपितृदेवानां गत्वाऽनृण्यं यथाविधि । पुत्रे सर्वं समासज्य वसेन् माध्यस्थ्यमाश्रितः ॥ २५७ ॥

When he has paid, according to the law, his debts to the great sages, to the manes, and to the gods, let him make over everything to his son and dwell (in his house), not caring for any worldly concerns.

english translation

maharSipitRdevAnAM gatvA'nRNyaM yathAvidhi | putre sarvaM samAsajya vasen mAdhyasthyamAzritaH || 257 ||

एकाकी चिन्तयेन्नित्यं विविक्ते हितमात्मनः । एकाकी चिन्तयानो हि परं श्रेयोऽधिगच्छति ॥ २५८ ॥

Alone let him constantly meditate in solitude on that which is salutary for his soul; for he who meditates in solitude attains supreme bliss.

english translation

ekAkI cintayennityaM vivikte hitamAtmanaH | ekAkI cintayAno hi paraM zreyo'dhigacchati || 258 ||

एषौदिता गृहस्थस्य वृत्तिर्विप्रस्य शाश्वती । स्नातकव्रतकल्पश्च सत्त्ववृद्धिकरः शुभः ॥ २५९ ॥

Thus have been declared the means by which a Brahmana householder must always subsist, and the summary of the ordinances for a Snataka, which cause an increase of holiness and are praiseworthy.

eSauditA gRhasthasya vRttirviprasya zAzvatI | snAtakavratakalpazca sattvavRddhikaraH zubhaH || 259 ||

अनेन विप्रो वृत्तेन वर्तयन् वेदशास्त्रवित् । व्यपेतकल्मषो नित्यं ब्रह्मलोके महीयते ॥ २६० ॥

A Brahmana who, being learned in the lore of the Vedas, conducts himself in this manner and daily destroys his sins, will be exalted in Brahman’s world.

anena vipro vRttena vartayan vedazAstravit | vyapetakalmaSo nityaM brahmaloke mahIyate || 260 ||
