वेदप्रदानादाचार्यं पितरं परिचक्षते । न ह्यस्मिन् युज्यते कर्म किञ्चिदा मौञ्जिबन्धनात् ॥ १७१ ॥

They call the teacher (the pupil’s) father because he gives the Veda; for nobody can perform a (sacred) rite before the investiture with the girdle of Munga grass.

english translation

vedapradAnAdAcAryaM pitaraM paricakSate । na hyasmin yujyate karma kiJcidA mauJjibandhanAt ॥ 171 ॥
