एवं दृढव्रतो नित्यं ब्रह्मचारी समाहितः । समाप्ते द्वादशे वर्षे ब्रह्महत्यां व्यपोहति ॥ ८१ ॥

He who thus (remains) always firm in his vow, chaste, and of concentrated mind, removes after the lapse of twelve years (the guilt of) slaying a Brahmana.

english translation

evaM dRDhavrato nityaM brahmacArI samAhitaH | samApte dvAdaze varSe brahmahatyAM vyapohati || 81 ||

शिष्ट्वा वा भूमिदेवानां नरदेवसमागमे । स्वमेनोऽवभृथस्नातो हयमेधे विमुच्यते ॥ ८२ ॥

Or he who, after confessing his crime in an assembly of the gods of the earth (Brahnanas), and the gods of men (Kshatriyas), bathes (with the priests) at the close of a horse-sacrifice, is (also) freed (from guilt).

english translation

ziSTvA vA bhUmidevAnAM naradevasamAgame | svameno'vabhRthasnAto hayamedhe vimucyate || 82 ||

धर्मस्य ब्राह्मणो मूलमग्रं राजन्य उच्यते । तस्मात् समागमे तेषामेनो विख्याप्य शुध्यति ॥ ८३ ॥

The Brahmana is declared (to be) the root of the sacred law and the Kshatriya its top; hence he who has confessed his sin before an assembly of such men, becomes pure.

english translation

dharmasya brAhmaNo mUlamagraM rAjanya ucyate | tasmAt samAgame teSAmeno vikhyApya zudhyati || 83 ||

ब्रह्मणः सम्भवेनैव देवानामपि दैवतम् । प्रमाणं चैव लोकस्य ब्रह्मात्रैव हि कारणम् ॥ ८४ ॥

By his origin alone a Brahmana is a deity even for the gods, and (his teaching is) authoritative for men, because the Veda is the foundation for that.

english translation

brahmaNaH sambhavenaiva devAnAmapi daivatam | pramANaM caiva lokasya brahmAtraiva hi kAraNam || 84 ||

तेषां वेदविदो ब्रूयुस्त्रयोऽप्येनः सुनिष्कृतिम् । सा तेषां पावनाय स्यात् पवित्रा विदुषां हि वाक् ॥ ८५ ॥

(If) only three of them who are learned in the Veda proclaim the expiation for offences, that shall purify the (sinners); for the words of learned men are a means of purification.

english translation

teSAM vedavido brUyustrayo'pyenaH suniSkRtim | sA teSAM pAvanAya syAt pavitrA viduSAM hi vAk || 85 ||
