Kamasutra
विद्याभूमिहिरण्यपशुधान्यभाण्डोपस्करमित्रादीनां अर्जनं अर्जितस्य विवर्धनं अर्थः ॥ १-२-९ ॥
Artha signifies material goods, wealth. Artha consists of acquiring and increasing, within the limits of dharma, knowledge, land, gold, cattle, patrimony, crockery, furniture, friends, clothing, etc.

अर्थ का स्वरूप और उसका उपाय - विद्या, भूमि, हिरण्य (स्वर्ण), पशु, धान्य, बर्तनादि गृह-उपकरण, मित्रों आदि का सम्पादन करना तथा अर्जित को बढ़ाना ही अर्थ कहलाता है ॥ ९ ॥
